As I sit here working on the newsletter, I hear the wonderful news – “U.S. Supreme Court overturns Roe v. Wade”! My heart rejoices at the victory God has wrought in this country. And all on the cusp of our nation’s birthday!
“I will extol You, my God, O King; and I will bless Your name forever and ever. Every day I will bless You, and I will praise Your name forever and ever. Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised; and His greatness is unsearchable. One generation shall praise Your works to another, And shall declare Your mighty acts.” – Psalm 145:1-4 NKJV
We are part of the generation that saw a victory of life in this country. How many hours of prayer have been offered? How many rallies for life have been organized? How many men and women ran for office to promote the sanctity of life in our government? And was it all for naught? Certainly not! God has been merciful to us. We have a depraved society with deplorable leadership, yet God has not forgotten the cries of His children for the lives of the unborn.
“May He grant you according to your heart’s desire, and fulfill all your purpose.” – Psalm 20:4
According to the World Health Organization, around 73 million abortions take place globally each year, including 29% of all pregnancies. Think of it? 73 million little lives that God miraculously created are “terminated” because of sinful human hearts. When I look at my son, Phinny, I think, “don’t they realize how precious each life is?”
The battle is obviously not over. We still have work to do. State-level lawmaking is where the battle ought to take place. But this victory gives encouragement to us all – God has not utterly forsaken America. God still hears the prayers of His saints. And God still wants us to be salt and light, a voice for the voiceless, engaging the culture for Jesus Christ – the King of compassion.
I am reminded of how a Christian couple challenged me to take seriously God’s Word which says:
“Deliver those who are drawn toward death and hold back those stumbling to the slaughter. If you say, ‘Surely we did not know this,’ does not He who weighs the hearts consider it? He who keeps your soul, does He not know it? And will He not render to each man according to his deeds?” – Proverbs 24:11, 12 NKJV
America is not done for. There is still time to engage the culture and preserve the values of this beautiful country. Elections still need to be fixed. Laws still need to be made. Apathetic churches still need to wake up. But take encouragement in this:
“And now for a little while grace has been shown from the Lord our God…to give us a peg in His holy place, that our God may enlighten our eyes and give us a measure of revival in our bondage.” – Ezra 9:8 NKJV
